Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Joint Roadmap attempts to define and develop a Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) for apparel and shoe industry.
ZHDC MRSL addresses not only substances that may be present in finished products, but also hazardous substances potentially used or released to the environment during manufacturing and related processes.
ZDHC MRSL is a list of chemical substances subject to prohibition of use, so a chemical substance or group of substances listed in MRSL cannot be used to achieve a desired function or effect during manufacturing of raw material or product (intentional use). Trace amounts of restricted substances, which may arise from manufacturing impurities in chemical formulations, are permitted within determined concentration limits. Chemical formulations containing restricted substances in amounts exceeding these limits do not comply with MRSL.
