Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the most important global processing standard for textile products manufactured from organic fibers. It not only implements very demanding criteria during all stages of organic textile chain, but also requires compliance with requirements regarding social responsibility.
The purpose of this standard is to define the conditions to ensure organic status of textile products beginning from the harvest of raw materials until labeling to provide a reliable assurance to the end consumer, with an environmentally and socially responsible sense of production.
Plants where GOTS products are processed have compliance criteria (wastewater treatment, minimum social criteria, supervision of processing, production and trading stages). In addition, it was also aimed to determine criteria for natural and synthetic chemical inputs (paint, auxiliary chemicals and finishing chemicals) with low impact and low residue, acceptable for produced textile products. Products are analyzed and it is determined whether requirements of the standard are satisfied by institutes designated by GOTS.
