With its 4th Communication of Progress prepared in accordance with the international reporting standards of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and within the scope of the UN Global Compact, Akkim Kimya received A level approval from GRI. Upon reporting its economic, social and environmental sustainability performance between January 1st and December 31st 2013 in the most comprehensive way, Akkim has become the first Turkish chemical company to achieve this success.
As a transparent and sustainable company, Akkim put its stamp under a number of practices within this scope and has been continuing to report its performance within the framework of the United Nations Global Compact that it signed voluntarily in 2007. Akkim operates with a vision of sustainable and comprehensive global economy and focuses on human rights, working conditions, protection of environment and anti-corruption as mentioned in the Global Compact. Also representing its parent company, Akkök Holding, as a Board Member of Global Compact Local Network Turkey, Akkim received C level approval with its Sustainability Report 2012 and A level approval with its Sustainability Report 2013, both of which are drawn in accordance with the international reporting standards of GRI (Global Reporting Initiative).
With the report that covers the principles of transparency, responsibility and accountability at all levels -from customers to employees, shareholders and all stakeholders- Akkim has become the first Turkish chemical company as well as the first Akkök Holding company to obtain A level approval from GRI.
Mr. Yılmaz Argüden, PhD, the Chairman of Global Compact Local Network Turkey, congratulated Akkim Kimya upon its becoming the first GRI-approved and A level approved company in the Turkish chemicals industry, which is a highly strategic sector for the Turkish economy. Mr. Argüden also stated that voluntary sustainability reporting is a product of efforts of corporate transparency and that receiving such approval upon inspection of an international institution is a true source of pride.
